Galerie Kernweine

Migrant Bird Space × Galerie Kernweine brings together the works of Luo Yang and Geng Xue in a dialogue between exterior and interior worlds, between lived reality and psychological myth, intimacy and projection, surface and transformation.

Spanning photography, porcelain, sculpture, and image-making practice, the exhibition explores how emotional states become visible through bodies, objects, and atmospheres. Both artistic positions emerge from a shared cultural sensibility rooted in Northeast China, yet unfold through radically different visual languages. What connects them is not narrative, but emotional structure: a sensitivity toward what remains unresolved, unspoken, and internally charged.

Luo Yang’s photographs move through portraiture, youth culture, desire, and vulnerability with striking immediacy. Her images do not simply document contemporary life, but transform moments of intimacy into emotional architectures, spaces where identity, tenderness, alienation, and human connection appear suspended between presence and memory. The visible surface becomes psychological terrain.

In contrast, Geng Xue’s works retreat inward. Through porcelain, painting, and sculptural form, she constructs dreamlike worlds populated by hybrid bodies, fragmented vessels, and symbolic creatures. Her practice merges traditional material language with deeply personal mythology, allowing matter itself to become a carrier of memory, tension, and subconscious narration.
